This past week, we started a Monet project. Each Artist will create their own lily pond inspired by Monet's waterlilies. To create the pond, we cut a paper into an organic shape. Then, we used a combination of charcoal and cool colored chalk pastels to create swirly twirly water. Finally, to set the chalk and blend the colors, we dipped our fingers in liquid starch and created a whirlpool on the paper! It was very messy, but oh so much fun! Up next, we will use painted paper to create the lily pads and flowers.

This past week, we started a collage/drawing/painting project inspired by the work of Jim Dine. Jim Dine's favorite holiday MUST have been Valentine's Day because he sure loved to paint hearts! Each Kindergarten Artist selected a color background and four small color squares to work with initially. They used "Steady Friends" to trace a heart shape onto these four small pieces. Then, we cut and glued our hearts in a pattern on the background paper. Finally, we used oil pastel to embellish the four sections of our paper. Up next, we will embellish further and paint the piece with tempera.

Welcome! Kindergarten art at Wegienka focuses on three learning targets that are listed below. Especially in the beginning, Kindergarten artists make discoveries about these learning targets through play and sensory experiences. Beyond this, we will do many guided lessons to prepare to use the studio as 1st graders.
Kindergarten artists will start the year by taking part in a school-wide installation inspired by the book Only One You by Linda Kranz. Each artist will be given a stone to decorate using acrylic paint. The stones will all be displayed on the school grounds to be enjoyed for years to come. Up next, we will do some guided drawings to practice lines and shapes. |
