1st Grade artists will learn about the work of Piet Mondrian(1872-1944), a Dutch non-representational painter. His most famous works were paints that used horizontal and vertical lines to create a grid. The grids were filled in with mostly primary and neutral colors.

Line: a mark that has greater length than width Horizontal Line: a line that goes side to side Vertical Line:a line that goes up and down Diagonal Line: a line that is on an angle Shape: a closed line (square, rectangle, oval) Primary Colors: the three colors that make up every color on the spectrum (red, yellow, and blue) Non-representational: doesn't depict anything specific (a portrait is representational)
