3rd Grade Artists are finishing up their Ojibwe inspired yokes that will be worn on Native American Night (November 20, 2017). Each student created a practice piece before this. We created a symmetrical drawing on part of a paper bag using Ojibwe designs. After coloring these pieces, Each Artist crumpled and crumpled and crumpled the paper to break down the fibers and make it feel like old cloth. These are hanging by the 4th and 5th grade pod at Wegienka.
Please remember to send in a white t-shirt with your Young Artist by November 1, 2017. We will be dyeing them soon! |
The first week of rock painting was a blast! Your Young Artist is using acrylic paint to decorate several rocks for our landscaping project. Each stone will be apart of a permanent rock garden at Wegienka. This coming week, we will begin our Native American Night project by practicing traditional Ojibwe designs. We are creating a Yoke to be worn for the event. We will also be dyeing a t-shirt to wear under our Yokes. Look for a reminder about that soon!

Welcome back To begin the year, 3rd Grade Artists will take part in a school-wide installation inspired by the book Only One You by Linda Kranz. Each artist will be given a stone to decorate using acrylic paint. The stones will all be displayed on the school grounds to be enjoyed for years to come.
Up next, we will work on a project for Native American Night. Students will be learning about the Ojibwe Tribe in their classroom. In the Art Studio, we will practice Ojibwe designs and create a wearable piece for this event. |
