Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian artist who lived from 1866 to 1944. He is said to have created the first abstract work of art. This means that he was the first to paint something that wasn't supposed to look like anything in real life. Before he started painting works like the ones below, he did paint realistically, much like Picasso did before he worked in Cubism.
